Things to check before you call

- Thermostat set to Heat, with fresh batteries if it uses them
- Furnace filter. A plugged filter overheats the furnace and trips the safety limit
- The furnace switch (looks like a light switch) and the breaker
- Intake and exhaust pipes outside. Snow and frost block them after storms
- Furnace door fully closed. Most units will not run with the panel loose

Repair or replace?
We will always tell you what the repair costs and how long we expect it to hold. Replacement starts to make sense when the furnace is over 15 years old, the heat exchanger is cracked, or one repair is more than about a third of the cost of a new unit. If you decide to replace, the diagnostic fee you paid goes toward the new furnace.
What affects the cost of a furnace repair
- The part that failed. An igniter or flame sensor is a small repair. A control board, inducer or blower motor costs more
- Age and brand. Parts for older and discontinued models can take longer to source
- Whether the part is still under the manufacturer's warranty. We check that for you
- Access. Furnaces in tight crawl spaces and attics take longer

My furnace is blowing cold air. What is wrong?
The most common causes are a dirty flame sensor, a failed igniter, a tripped high limit from a plugged filter, or a blocked vent pipe outside. All are usually same-visit fixes.
Is a cracked heat exchanger dangerous?
It can be. A cracked heat exchanger can let combustion gases, including carbon monoxide, into the air stream. If we find one we show you the crack on camera, shut the furnace down safely and go through your options.
